Week 20

Sooo transfers are tomorrow. They are sending me to the Gila valley to a little town called Thatcher. I am excited... But it's going to be a BIG change. It's like the furthest place I can be sent. It's actually cold there! So I'll be needing to get some warmer clothes, it snows there. And here is the best part. I'll be on a bike.

This week was really good though! Lots of miracles. We did a lot of finding and have a new investigator. My sweet friend Bren was baptized this Saturday too! It was so fun teaching her and her family. Then after the baptism we got to go to a wedding reception for a couple in the ward. It was a good time
Not going to lie, I'm sad to leave the oro valley. But I know that I'll have a good time in Thatcher. Sister Gadd is going to be my STL which will be a blast!
A lot happened this week.. But not a ton to say honestly
Hope everyone has a great week! I can't wait to call on Christmas!! 1 week 🤗😆
Love you guys

Week 19

So many miracles this week! We found 2 new investigators :) As we have been doing Light the World there have been so many tender mercies. It has been such an amazing way to talk to people! And it has been so fun to get all the members involved and to hear their experiences! If anyone has any experiences from Light the World shoot me an email! I'd love to hear all about it!
I think one of my favorite things this week has been seeing all the Christmas lights. People go all out here! like nothing Ive ever seen. One of our new investigators should honestly go on that show, my strange addictions, for Christmas decorations. My jaw dropped when I went inside.. First off, her whole yard is filled with inflatables that are like 8 ft high. there are probably around 30 of them. Then inside her house, every inch of the house is filled with some sort of Christmas something. she has 5 Christmas trees. Every cabinet is filled with Christmas mugs, plates, utensils, anything. She has over 500 plush Christmas toys that sing. The WHOLE house is decked out in lights. She has an entire room that was a display of one of those Christmas villages. It was over 200 houses. I mean, it was pure insanity. We are going back tonight, I will get some pictures because I can't even put into words how mind blowing it really was. And i'm sure you all think I'm exaggerating. I'M NOT.

I am pretty tired I gotta say. I get like no sleep. Sister Barker talks in her sleep ALL night. Like, even the earplugs don't do anything when she starts screaming. It is so annoying, but its also the funniest thing. She gets really mad in her sleep. So she will scream random names and say something like, "Yeah, well let me help you with that" and then she will mess up her bed. I don't know how I am not getting any of this on video! It just happens so fast, and it's so dark that I don't think the camera would be able to see it.
Going on splits has been super fun. I actually feel bad because it looks like sister Williamson is my companion. I have hardly any pictures with sister barker. But it was really fun going to williamson's area. We went over to an investigator's house to help her wrap presents. She is in a wheelchair and can't use her hands. But she is the funniest person. We hit it off really fast and I almost didn't want to go back to my own area. We were wrapping presents, we turned on Christmas music and were singing so loud. It was just such a fun day. It was really refreshing to remember how fun missionary work can be. I get so stressed sometimes with dealing with so many people and they are all struggling with things that I can't even begin to understand. It can get really overwhelming. But there is really nothing better than losing yourself in service.

Speaking of service. I finally got to go back to Catalina state park this week to work! I hate missing it, but I have had doctors appointments and meetings every week that we haven't been able to go. And I can't even believe it. It was cold. I had jeans and a hoodie, but I was so cold. So they gave us all these cool state park volunteer windbreakers. I think the biggest reason why I have been cold is just because I don't actually have warm clothes.
It was so beautiful, it actually rained the other day! We were so excited that after this lady slammed the door in our face we just stayed in her driveway to take pictures by the plants and you can see all the clouds.
We went over to see Chuck this week. We couldn't go inside because we didn't find anyone who could go with us. But it was really sweet, he went inside and brought us both his big huge jackets to wear while we talked in his driveway. It was late when we went over there but we had to go drop off my present for him. I printed off all the pictures we took at the temple and put them into a photo album and I put all these pictures with cute quotes in there and I wrote him a letter that I put in the front pocket. He loved it! Haha he put it next to his wife's urn. I am so honored lol! I had to call sister Gadd to tell her, she just started laughing and I said I made it to the celestial level of Chuck.
The ward Christmas party was on Saturday and it was a lot of fun. My recent convert's little girl Rosetta followed me around all night. She is 3. It was so cute, she was such a little copy cat. We shared a chair all night and any time I would cross my legs, she would too, or if I would fold my arms, she would too. She even took my necklace and wore it all night so that she could be like me. Just makes me smile :)
It was also Sister Barker's birthday this week! It's so funny, I must be such a bad companion that the best gift I can give is a break from me for the day! Lol! We went on exchanges on her birthday. I only say that because we went on exchanges on sister Gadd's birthday too. Low key I think it was a sign! hahaha!
Hope you all have a wonderful week :) Don't forget to light the world! and then tell me all about it! Love you all!

Week 18

Another week gone by. Thanks for the package from the young women back home! Super cute picture and the popcorn was so good!
Highlights from the week were zone conference and exchanges. Lots of fun and it was good to see everyone. We got to hear from Elder Maynes! He is a member of the 70. I learned a lot! It was awesome.
Exchanges were tons of fun! Got to go out to San Manuel. It's a little town in the middle of nowhere! And everyone there is just slightly off.. I loved it! We passed this one house and they had an inflatable Santa that was like twice the size of the house haha!
It's been amazing to participate in light the world!! It makes the work so much easier. Honestly everyone should do it.
Kinda funny, sister Barker's sleep walking is getting so much worse. The other night she stole the covers off me, folded them and put them on the edge of her bed... that was a first! Then she got up last night and turned the lights on and was telling me to get ready. It was 3:40. I just told her she was asleep and she got back in bed. It's just funny more than anything, but I wake up at least once every night which gets kind of annoying.
Anyways, don't have a ton to write about.  People keep asking about Christmas presents and honestly, lotion. I'm shriveling up out here. I've gone through all my lotion, and there is no bath and body works near me! It's a struggle.
Love you all! Have an amazing week and LIGHT THE WORLD!

Week 17

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
My week has been pretty good. Just adjusting to a new companion really. She has been out for a while so she likes to do things her way, but she is good at what she does so I don't know why I am always so quick to fight it. I don't know if I said this before, but sister Barker is a sleepwalker and talker. It is soooo funny. She is crazy! She gets up in the middle of the night and will jump on the bed and scream and run around. She is not a mumbler either. She will speak so clearly! Its weird. I really gotta get a video sometime.
I met some really cool people this week!! On Monday night we found this lady who is Jewish and lived through the Holocaust. Tons of her family died in the concentration camps. Her grandpa was the strongest man in the world! Look him up, I'm pretty sure he is called the mighty atom. She had all these bent iron bars that he would bend over his head and wrap around his arm. Crazy!

Also got to go to a members house for thanksgiving and it was awesome! Her family is super musically talented and most of them are performers. So we all ate outside and they put on a little concert. I could've stayed forever! They were amazing!!
When I went to go see Donna this week I was so nervous. I had no idea how I was going to tell her that she is too sick to be baptized. But then after talking for a bit, her sister walked in! I had never met her. but the only thing I had ever heard was that she was super against Donna being baptized. But then I was able to talk to the both of them about temples, and how those who are not able to be baptized for themselves can be baptized in the temple. Her sister was so nice and gave me her number so that I could contact her if there is any news on what we can do to get Donna baptized. And Donna asked me if I would go and do her work in the temple. It was so so special. I still cant even believe that that all happened.
Had a wonderful visit with my pal Chuck. We invited him to walk around the temple with us. So he came and we were able to read the Living Christ with him and answer his questions, talk about his concerns. And then we just walked around and took lots of pictures! He is the sweetest! I want to print off all the pictures I got of him and put them in a little book for him to keep. He keeps saying that he needs a break from the lds church. But he comes to church every time I invite him and he almost always meets us when we ask him. So we will just keep seeing him :)

I finally got my tiwi card! So I can drive now. Because my comp is the sister training leader, she goes on exchanges with all the other sisters, so then other sisters come and stay with me for the day. We do this like once a week. So its nice to be able to drive because I am the one who actually knows the area. And we drive like the nicest car which is fun. We still have the Malibu ;)
Gave a talk yesterday in church. They gave me no direction or time frame. but I think it was fine. I talked about being a disciple of Christ and how we can become more Christlike by not only changing our behavior but by ultimately changing our nature. That as missionaries and disciples of Christ, we stand as a witness of Him and that we must strive to be constantly converted to Him.
I hope that you are all doing well!
love you all

Week 16

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing well.
This week has been madness! Been keeping super busy. So transfers were on Tuesday! Sister Barker and her last comp came in a day early because they were in the Gila valley and are still training so I got to meet her early! It was sad I didn't get to go to the transfer sight and say my goodbyes but all is well. Sister Barker is so sweet, very motivated and obedient. One of the most dedicated missionaries in the mission. It's awesome, it'll just take some adjusting on my part.. lol!
Man we sure went straight to work on Tuesday. Sometimes I feel like she is the energizer bunny of missionaries, and there is no off switch haha! I almost feel bad because this whole time I'm thinking I really enjoy being a missionary and that I work pretty hard.. nope. Sister Barker makes me look like a disobedient slacker hahaha! But I think this will be good. Whip me into shape with a smile.
I will say, taking over the area has been a bit stressful. I know the area I know the people, I know the needs of the people we are working with but right before transfers there have been a few people to drop some bombs for news and I feel like it all kinda fell on my head. Sister Barker goes home in February, so she is a well seasoned missionary but I feel like it's more about knowing these people, so I've had to call sister Gadd a few times to ask for help because Sister Barker doesn't know these people yet..
I was so excited because we got Donna to church yesterday! It was pretty hectic, but she was able to come for sacrament. Some members of the ward went to go pick her up. I am so glad that she came this week because it was the primary program! She loved it, and Chuck came too! He said that it was the best Sunday service he'd ever been to. Then after sacrament, Donna was feeling sick so we went with the members to take her back... oh gosh it was so bad! She was mumbling and we couldn't understand her. Then she just threw up everywhere! All over herself, I felt sooooo bad. But she just wasn't there. She is really digressing. I talked to president and he said she isn't cleared to be baptized. I'm sooo sad. I think her time is coming soon. It's been hard to watch her wither away. But we got her to church..
This week has just been super busy trying to catch sister Barker up on everything. But it's been really cool to see how much I've progressed. In my personal study I've been reading an article on becoming a consecrated missionary. It's really opened my eyes on what it means to become. I know I'm not a bad missionary, but there are just so many things I want to be better at.  I just have to take it one step at a time, one thing at a time and as long as I am striving to become better and more consecrated, the Lord will make up for the list of things I still need to improve on.
I'm still trudging along, just trying to remember to smile.

Love you all!

Week 15

Week 14

This week was long and short at the same time. It was really weird. But honestly I'm so excited for transfers! Sister Gadd and I are friends, but we seem to be getting on each other's nerves.  It's just hard to be glued at the hip with someone 24-7 for like 3 months.
Even though we sometimes struggle things are going very well. My district is pretty great and we have lots of fun. My investigators are awesome! Chuck is my favorite person in the world! He is 88 and we are going to invite him to be baptized pretty soon. We have to keep teaching the plan of salvation over and over because he always forgets. But he is such a hoot 🤣 He always calls me little Grant and says he would join the church as soon as I am the bishop hahaha! He comes to church and everyone in the ward loves him!
Sadly our other investigator Donna (the old woman with ms) is in the hospital. She has fallen everyday for like 2 weeks and the last time was pretty bad. Once she is out of the hospital they are going to move her to a nursing home where they can take better care of her. So I'm happy she will be getting the care she needs. But it also means she will be out of my area. So I'll have to pass her on. But lucky for the missionaries who get her! We set a baptism date with her this week.
Our zone focus is on getting people to the temple. So we have been setting temple dates with everyone this week. I am excited because everyone is accepting it very well! I can't wait to be able to go to the temple with them!
This Sunday was pretty cool, it was regional conference. I've never actually had a regional conference before. We met as a stake and heard from our stake president. Then we watched a broadcast from Salt Lake. Elder Christofferson spoke which was pretty good. Honestly I don't remember what he even talked about. I was practicing sign language the whole time...
Not a whole lot to talk about this week, and not a whole lot of pictures. To be honest, the most interesting thing about this week is that sister Gadd and I are trying this new thing. We got this new spray deodorant, but it's like all natural, no anti perspirant. And we got this special detoxing clay that is supposed to be really good for your skin.. we'll have to see how well it works, but it's supposed to be way better for you than regular deodorant. One of the ladies we are teaching was telling us all about it. So if it works I eventually won't have to really put anything other than the little spray and I won't smell at all. But for now I'm pretty sure I smell so bad hahaha!
Hope everyone else had a good week!

Week 12

Another week gone by. This week was kinda weird. Not a ton happened but it was just very drama filled. We got a new investigator this week! That's the best news. We have been really struggling in that ward to find people to teach. And our ward mission leader doesn't think we do anything.. I know he knows but I don't think he understands that we cover 2 wards. But I'm excited, I think we are going to set a bap date with her this week.
Sorry I have like no pictures... like I said not a ton really happened. Or nothing worth taking a picture of I guess. But this Saturday we got to go to the YMCA to do service at a trunk'r'treat activity. It was insane. There were so many people, and we were in charge of the the bouncy houses. So many kids got separated from their parents! I was so tired by the end of the night! But we all got teeshirts and we got to be with everyone from our district.
Also, my friend Carl gave his farewell talk yesterday! We were in the same singles ward  at school in Idaho and it turns out he lives in one of the wards I'm serving in! Pretty crazy!
I have an investigator who has a bit of a pride issue.. Anyways I've been studying patience and humility and charity a lot lately. And I was reading in alma and it was talking about humbling yourself. And it's been on my mind lately, am I humbling myself? Or am I being compelled to be humble? And when it comes to teaching, do I have the patience  to let them humble themselves, or am I too quick to compel them to humility? Anyways, just some food for thought.
Have a good week!

Week 11

It was another pretty long week.
Great news is that the lice problem is pretty much all taken care of and I never got it! It was a pain because my tablet is almost out of storage from all of the videos I had to download so that she would sit still long enough for me to go through her hair.
This week we went out to eat a lot again. I can't even tell you how happy I was to finally go to a members home for dinner! I mean it is fun to go out. But it's nice to have a good conversation with someone other than my comp. And it's not like we have that may options of places to go out to eat.

We did tons of service this week! We worked at Catalina and cleaned up the trails. It's not like the work was hard but to clean the trails you have to actually hike them. So that was pretty long. And then the next day we cleaned someone's yard. They are nonmembers in our area and they are older and not able to do it themselves. So sister Gadd and I arranged a day for our zone to go do it for them. It was great, everyone was super helpful. But it was a long day for sure! They were so sweet! Her name is boots and she made us all sloppy Joes for lunch and had a cooler full of soda and waters. She cleaned her pool so that we could all go swimming. So it was a bummer we aren't allowed to because that would've been so much fun! We also did a lot of moving and packing and stuff for some members. So I'm pretty tired.

On Saturday we got to go on an all day splits kinda thing. A ward in a different zone does this activity where all the youth get to go with a companionship for a whole day and see what missionary life is really like. So we got to take a girl named Becky with us for the day! It was pretty cool! We went to the church and played volleyball with one of our potentials who lives with a member in the ward. We got to meet with a less active that just moved in. But the best part of the day was honestly dinner. We went over to Griselle's house, she is a recent convert from Puerto Rico. She loves having us over and always makes us some fancy meal. She is the best. We walk in and she'll snap her fingers and tell us to relax on the couch and have a good time. She also taught us how to make some really good Puerto Rican food!

We teach a lot of families with little kids and it is so much fun! We have a game or a magic trick or a craft to go with pretty much every lesson. I'm getting really good with making object lessons and making things really simple. It keeps things fun and entertaining. And honestly everyone loves it. The magic tricks are always a hit. When they work hahaha! We've had a few that totally failed but it was pretty funny. We use fire in most of our magic tricks so at least nothing has gone seriously wrong!

I think the biggest lesson I've had to learn this week is patience. It's frustrating when everyone cancels on us. It's just part of missionary work. And everyone knows it, it's just a fact that everyone blows off the missionaries. But even knowing that doesn't make it any less annoying. I've also had to learn to be patient with my comp and with myself. It's easy to say things you don't mean when you are tired and hungry or just not in the mood to life. But I've learned that when I know that I am any of those things, I can turn it over to the Lord. When I get on my knees and ask for strength, He always comes through. Not that I am all of a sudden a different person and filled with energy and motivation. But when I trust in him he helps me to have the courage to just put one foot in front of the other and make it through the day!

Today had been really fun though, this morning all the sisters in my zone went bowling and then out to eat. It was nice to see everyone and just have a good time. It was kinda funny because I asked sister Gadd if we could wear pants and she said no. And trust me, I asked multiple times! But she wouldn't let me. And when we got there, all the other sisters were in pants! I was only very bitter about that. Hahaha but nah we had a great time.
Hope you all have a great week!

Week 10

This week's sure been swell! On Monday, I told you guys that people were coming to stay with us. My grandpa of the mission, sister Carter was here! Super fun! Lots of hugs and good times staying up all night having a blast. We even went out on Tuesday for lunch with her new comp. Had my first Sanoran dog!

Then Wednesday during our zone breakout we get a text from sister Carter. She has lice. So we called her after to ask if she was messing with us, nope not a joke. So we check our hair and sure enough sister Gadd has the nits. Thank the heavens, we have not found any in my hair! But I have washed EVERYTHING. It's annoying because sister Gadd freaks out beyond no belief, she thinks she's cleaning... she's not. Someone said that if you mix tee tree oil and water it can help prevent lice. We don't even know if that's true. But all she does is spray everything and take naps. Of course i let her tell everyone that she cleans, but I can't even tell you how many loads of laundry, vacuuming, scrubbing, literally everything I've done while she naps. And then who actually gets to go through her hair? Oh yeah, that would be me. I get to go through her hair every night. And really, it could be so much worse! Sister Carter apparently has like hundreds in her hair. I find about 7-15 nits every night. So it's annoying but it could be worse. But she is like a child, she doesn't sit still to let me go through her hair! And it's not like I'm gonna let her just live with it, because I don't want to get it!

Alright, sorry for the total pity party rant. Other than dealing with lice, the week hasn't been THAT bad. I've been super dehydrated even though I drink tons of water, so I'm trying to drink more Powerade and Gatorade, but my skin hurts because I'm so dry. Not a ton of lessons this week because either we had to cancel or people canceled on us. But the lessons that we did have this week were so great! I feel like I really gained the trust and respect of the people I'm teaching. Everyone loved the missionary before me and were really disappointed when I replaced her. But now that they've gotten to know me and be open with me I feel like things are going much better.
I really don't remember a ton from this week.. It's all been kind of a blur. We only had a couple dinners this week. Most people canceled on us, so we went out a lot. We got to go to MOD pizza which made me happy. But really this week has just been all about getting rid of lice. I wish we could've done more, but we just didn't see too many people.

The weather is starting to get to that perfect Tucson temperature! And I'm more used to it. But the nights are about 83 and it honestly feels perfect. Normally I'd say that's really hot for at night but it feels so much cooler. It was funny too because my comp and I had a debate about if 90 was hot or warm, of course I said 90 is hot. But I lost, everyone said 90 is perfect because it's warm.

Yeah, nothing else much to talk about this week. Trying to find some new Pday things to go do. We don't do very much, sister Gadd just like to sleep and I get really stir crazy so I am demanding that we go somewhere other than the church and wallmart.

This week in my personal study I've been focusing on Grace and mercy. I love the imagery when mercy is talked about. I had never noticed that the scriptures almost always mention something about God's hands or arms. Like his merciful hand or merciful arm. It makes me think of a hug, and how he loves each of us so much that he forgives us, has compassion on us, and is waiting for us with open arms ready to love us and hold us if we have the faith and trust in him to catch us. Because we will always fall.

Love you all! Have a good week

Week 9

Nothing too exciting this week, it actually went by super fast. I've noticed that it goes every other week. I'll have a long week, then a crazy short week, then another long one. There really hasn't been an in between. Pretty much all of our appointment canceled on us, didn't hear back from any of our investigators. So we did a ton of finding this week. We passed out like 15 BoM's this week. We tried going through our potentials list and seeing everyone. It was good, stayed busy, it just went fast.

Because we got FB sister Gadd has been wanting to change her profile pic, so we took lots of pictures this week. We would just stop at random places for a little photo shoot hahaha most of them are ridiculous and I can't stop laughing at them.

One fun thing actually was that we got to go out to eat on Friday! Our dinner appointment canceled on us and dropped off a gift card for this Italian pizza and wine place. It was really good. But it was fun to go out to eat and just talk. Going to people's houses is nice, but honestly keeping up small talk all the time is exhausting! But as we were eating, we were sitting outside and this guy and his wife walk up and asked if we've been to frost. It's this really super amazing gelato place next to the restaurant we were eating at. And before we could say yes or no, he slips me a 20 and and says that they're buying. They were so nice! And yes we have been to frost before but it got paid for by a member last time too! So I've never had to pay for it. And it honestly is the BEST gelato.

Conference was so good. I watched most of the sessions at the church. But I watched the first and the last sessions at people's houses. We went over to Donna' s for the first. She is the sweet older woman with ms. And the last one with our investigator Shandra. She totally forgot and all of them were asleep. I mean it's probably what I'd be doing if I wasn't a missionary. But it was the 1 o'clock session.. We walk inside and it was a mess. Like we had to move tons of stuff just to see the tv. Then her boys start telling me about their bird. I'm like, you don't have a bird.. And then they take out this pigeon out of a box! They picked up a pigeon and kept it! Not sure if many of you know, it's weird, but I HATE PIGEONS. They were like holding it, petting it, kissing it! It would fly near me and it took everything in me not to dive for cover. I can tolerate a pigeon of its outside, but what in the world am I supposed to do if it's actually in the house! Oh and I forgot to mention, the pigeons name is Jeff. It was an interesting session. I'll probably have to go back and rewatch that one.

Transfers are tomorrow (tuesday) I'm staying here I'm the NW zone with sister Gadd. So should be another good transfer. We have all the new sister trainers staying with us till the greenies get here. It's a party lol!
Hope everyone is doing well. If anyone has any cute uplifting quotes feel free to send them my way. Either email, or over Facebook. Like Pinterest kinda quotes that I can print out and put up around my apartment. Also, I'd love to hear what everyone's favorite talk was and cool insights you had.

Lots of love!
